Bio: J. David McKenney is a professional illustrator living in New York City. J's love of fantasy, glamour, and beauty has long inspired his artistic style, and his work has focused on the worlds of high fashion and fairy tales. J. has also worked in a variety of other thematic areas and media, including magazines, book covers, advertisements, television commercials, games, storyboards, pamphlets, t shirts, animations, textiles, patches, figurines, tattoos, gift bags, tote bags, theater posters, party invitations, and children's books. He has earned a reputation for working with tight schedules, and is always willing to take on new challenges. J. grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania before moving to New York in 1999. After studying fashion photography at Parsons the New School for Design, he decided his true interest lay in illustration, and began to develop and show a portfolio. He landed one of his first commissions designing T-shirt graphics and fabric prints for Heatherette, a job that drew press attention and led to further commissions. Since then, J.’s career in illustration has taken off. In 2008, he landed his dream job designing an animated caricature of Mariah Carey for her Luscious Pink fragrance campaign, and went on to complete three additional caricatures of the singer for her holiday and birthday cards. J. uses mixed media in his work, including watercolors, pens, pastel, colored pencil, and digital manipulation. He works at a fast but careful pace, and has been known to complete elaborate jobs in very short amounts of time. His combination of creativity, a dedication to customer satisfaction, and speedy turnaround has enabled him to build a substantial list of regular and devoted clients.
